Institute for Government

The Institute for Government is an United Kingdom independent charity that aims to improve government effectiveness created in 2008.[1] It was initially funded with about £15 million by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, at the instigation of Lord David Sainsbury.[2].

The institute's stated aims are to engage with Members of Parliament and top UK civil servants by:

Its director is Lord Adonis, former Secretary of State for Transport and Schools Minister. Senior Fellows include Dr David Halpern, formerly Chief Analyst in the Prime Minister's Strategy Unit and Michael Bichard, Baron Bichard.[3]

On 4 November 2010, the charity was named Think Tank of the Year in Prospect Magazine's annual awards.

The Institute is based at 2 Carlton Gardens in central London.
